RIPM’s first database, the Retrospective Index was released online in 2000. Its content today totals over one million annotated records, and indexes to complete runs of 319 music periodicals published in sixteen languages. It is updated every six months. If the dream of the 1980s and 1990s was to bring to light the contents of an immensely important and complex corpus of literature, today it is, understandably, to bring the literature itself to one’s desktop, in a coherent, accessible format and with the speed of a mouse click. Thus, after many years of preparation for the immense task of digitizing and placing online the vast majority of journals that RIPM has indexed, the RIPM Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals with Full Text was released in May 2009. RIPM Jazz Periodicals
in collaboration of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University, which houses the largest collection of jazz periodicals in the world, RIPM Jazz Periodicals is the first online, full-text database of historic, rarely-available jazz journals and magazines. ‘RIPM Jazz’ currently contains 112 American (U.S.) titles published from 1914 to 2010.
